Face-Lift or Face-Drop?
You may notice that Airee.net is currently using a default design rather than the custom one I created for the site. You see, the site has been experiencing a lot of load time problems lately and I was ready to contact my host to verbally tear them apart when I noticed a couple of things that seemed odd:
- The main site typically took a long time to load even though the admin areas tended to load rather quickly, and
- Individual posts usually had little to no hang time.
On a whim, I changed the template and found that suddenly all of the load time problems had disappeared! The site didn’t hang up while loading, things came up as expected, and everything was shining, bright, and happy. So while I know that the layout itself was designed properly, I’m not so sure with the PHP code that I’ve used to call up posts. Until I get that straightened out, Airee.net will be running with a less appealing but loadable template.
Any tips, tricks, of ideas from experience WordPress users would be welcome; while I’ve got oodles of experience with designing sites, the dynamic PHP portion’s a little bit new to me and I’m willing to bet that that’s the issue. Somewhere. Somehow.
Edit: Figured it out! Oddly enough, it was a related posts plugin that I had installed quite some time ago tha was causing problems. Any time someone tried to load the site and multiple posts were queued, the entire site would bog down. Intriguing. Sadly, it means that I now have to look for a new plugin that will do the job but not harm the site!
