Ten Things You Didn’t Know About My Girls

Furthering the whole “I roleplay far too many damned toons” theme that I’ve brought up a couple of times lately, I thought that I would take the opportunity this afternoon to post a few random idiosyncracies from ten of my characters. Creating the list kept me occupied during an extremely long but rather interesting presentation we had this morning at work regarding the power generation industry.1

  1. When Forsaken mage Cili was still alive and living as Mariska Stormborne, this great-granddaughter of a famous pirate was plagued by seasickness the only time she was aboard a ship.
  2. Human priestess Csilla Kovács is allergic to chocolate.
  3. Kal’dorei huntress Eszti “Iron Legs” Nightwing is a consummate cook, having learned the finer qualities of food from her former lover.
  4. Dwarf rogue Hajnal Guthhrafn is not only allergic to horses but also swears that every horse is out to get her.
  5. Troll mage Ildiko the Mighty has the unsightly habit of speaking in third-person.
  6. Orc shaman Julcsa Breakspear isn’t naturally bald; she instead shaves her head on an almost-weekly basis.
  7. Sin’dorei mage Piroska Al’shar has an embarrassing secret: she enjoys reading trashy romance novels.
  8. Kal’dorei priestess Rahel Isera’duna hides a secret interest in the theater and has considered penning her own production.
  9. Gnome rogue Tzigane Thistledown can’t pick a lock to save her life.
  10. Draenei warrior Teca e’Veritas is fascinated by the murlocs and is currently studying their courtship rituals.

Just examples of the little things about each girl that makes them that much more real — and interesting! — in my mind.

  1. One that I almost slept through thanks to the extremely large breakfast that we were treated to just before the meeting.

Sin’dorei mage Piroska Al’shar has an embarrassing secret: she enjoys reading trashy romance novels and magic tickle feathers.

My troll refers to himself in the third person, as well. I don’t know what it is; it makes it easier to roleplay him for whatever reason.

I roleplayed with somebody once who referred to herself EXCLUSIVELY in the third person. Took a while to get used to. Apparently she’d been doing it with that character since level one (70 now!) I was impressed.

My old Troll Shaman, Nahiossi, had a terrible fear of plainstriders. It’s the eyes…

Fun reading! You’ve obviously started your campaign to get the closet roleplayers out from there hideouts.

Larísa’s got a notion for hide and seek though. You won’t find her… Yet.

Hilarity, in a can! But no, that’s really awesome you’ve thought so much about your characters. I’m not in to the RP side of WoW myself but I can appreciate all the effort and creativity that goes into it from those who are. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on your blog. :)

Nozzy: Yes, Nozzy. Feathers.

Enyx: The funny thing about Ildiko is that she doesn’t speak third-person because she speaks pidgin Orcish but because she has an overwhelming ego. She’s actually quite eloquent and tends to favor bombast. And, yes, she calls herself Ildiko the Mighty (I still need to make that guild for her).

Pike: Third-person can be utterly annoying. I love people’s reactions when I do it — especially since Ildiko the Mighty is on a PvP server!

Zevahiros: I can understand. They’re vicious creatures. Was there a reason behind the fear or was it just added flavor?

Larísa: Consider it my other crusade. After preaching the joys of Spirit. And the need to downrank Greater Healer over Flash Heal. And denouncing the rampant use of Power Word: Shield that I frequently see. And — I have too many issues.

Either way, I honestly enjoy roleplaying and try to get more people involved when I encounter them. Roleplaying is often a very inclusive activity and benefits immensely in having more people participate. Plus it’s a lot of damned fun!

Tigerfeet: Thanks! I’m a sucker for details (I’m an engineer with a background in business, too), so I enjoy fleshing my girls out that much. Those little idiocyncracies make them that much more real to me and more fun to play.

Nice hon, you definitely have a creative nature to you, as well as too much time on your hands. lol Honestly, I am very impressed by how much you put into the details and effort of roleplaying. You definitely know I can’t do it..

Ray will will make a roleplayer out of you yet. Have not fear of that one.

Wow. I don’t have anything quite so detailed worked out for my characters, but they do have some very defining characteristics:

My Shu’Halo hunter Grizo has a genetic disorder that affects his left hoof. He had went to Winterspring to die before he came back to mentor younglings in the fight against the legion. He’s had to construct a brace to allow him to continue fighting.

Draenei shaman Xaraand wanted to be a Vindicator like her parents when she was maturing, but was denied the opportunity because she could not channel the light sufficiently. She did not discover her shamanistic path until she was recovering after the crash.

Ktickner, my gnomish fire mage has a very unhealthy obsession with blasting powder and explosives.

Nozzy know crazy human priest that really like fire. Crazy human priest like to burn enemies with oil and torch after battle. Crazy human priest drink lots of wine after enemies fall. Crazy human priest try to burn down whole dungeon if not stopped by others.

Nozzy you are an absolute blessing in disguse. *giggles*

“I can understand. They’re vicious creatures. Was there a reason behind the fear or was it just added flavor?”

Well, when he was just a novice shaman, he got lost in the Barrens. He had the misfortune of running into a Ornery Plainstrider and it beat him within an inch of his life. So he’s been rather wary of them ever since and he WILL run away if one happens to get too close.
