A Contest I Have to Enter!
I recently noted in “Face-Tanking for the Win!” that I’d entered The Big Bear Butt’s t-shirt competition with my paltry attempts to be artistic. To say that I suffered a horrible loss when it came to the votes is an understatement; I think that I had perhaps one vote. To someone as competitive as I, it should probably be one hell of a blow to my ego. It’s a good thing that I didn’t even expect to be added to the list of contenders much less get a vote!
However, this time I’ve found a contest that is completely up my alley. Something at which I should excel. Something that won’t result in the ridicule of getting a single vote. Something that I might just win.
I’m excited.
PrettyPrettyPrincess, currently one of the top Alliance raiding guilds on the Feathermoon US roleplaying server1, has a contest. The prize? The opportunity to be in the raid for an Illidan killing. The contest? Accurately write a story explaining the motivations that your character possesses for killing The Betrayer and then further show how he or she would go about accomplishing that goal.
Guild officer Moranne offers the following information on the official Feathermoon US forums:
While perusing some threads on the forums, we have noted that there are a number of people who would very much lilke the chance to see an Illidan kill before WoTLK’s release. <PrettyPrettyPrincess> would like to sponsor an essay contest that will ensure the winner a spot in our raid for an Illidan Stormrage kill!
The purpose of our essay contest will be to invite others to produce an extremely creative short story (5 pages or less) within the boundaries of WoW lore on why your character wants or needs to kill Illidan Stormrage and how he or she would go about convincing (or blackmailing, or hiring) PPP to help. You may make up whatever you like in regards to knowing/meeting our characters to perpetuate your story. We are simply looking for RP creativity!
The essay deadline is midnight (server), August 13th. We will review the essays and vote during the following week, and announce a winner on this forum on August 21st. We may post the winning essay if the author gives us permission to do so, but will respect that person’s wishes if they don’t want it posted. Once a winner is announced, we will send that person an in-game mail and set up a time within our raid schedule to come with us to kill Illidan. We raid Sunday-Weds, 8 p.m. - 11 p.m. server time). It is probable that the kill would take place on a Wednesday night (late), or close to the start of raid on a Sunday/Monday. We ask that the winner please be flexible with our schedule.

Essays may be sent to pretty-prettyprincess@hotmail.com. Be sure to include your character’s name in the subject line of the e-mail so that we know who to contact in-game for a winner! A confirmation e-mail will be sent within 24 hours to acknowledge that your submission was received.
4. You may not ask any member of PPP for character or guild background information in order to make your story better! We want YOU to make it all up! Participants who message our guild members in game or through our forums, or e-mail about the contest will be immediately disqualified. We will do our best to answer any questions related to the contest through this forum.
Rules are as follows:
- This is a contest to participate in an Illidan Stormrage kill. No money (real or of the Wow variety) will be accepted in exchange for a raid spot, and no loot will be guaranteed to the winner of the contest or for any amount of money or begging (we do not sell BT gear!). This is only for an Illidan kill, so please do not ask for other bosses.
- Participants must have a level 70 Alliance character on US Feathermoon Server. Class, race, and spec are unimportant. You will fare better if you at least have enough pvp gear to survive the encounter, but we’ll let you sit there dead if that’s what you want to do.
- By submitting your application to this contest, you agree that if you win, you will follow the instructions given to you for the fight, and will not attempt to wipe our raid repeatedly.

To say that I am excited is a understatement! While I fully believe that the Drunken Badgers will eventually reach and slay Illidan, my perky priestess’s raid doesn’t look as likely. Furthermore, we’re talking about the cream of the crop here. PrettyPrettyPrincess is definitely a guild of notable skill and many of their players are rather classy individuals; having the opportunity to raid with them would be exceedingly awesome.2 Even if I don’t manage to snag any loot I’d still benefit from seeing them in action and rubbing elbows with my server’s elite.
So, any ideas on why a young perky girl who grew up on a vineyard in Elwynn Forest3 would go out of her way to slay someone? I’ve got ideas of my own, jealously guarded from the unwashed masses, but none of my fellow raiders could come up with reasonable ideas last night. Silly unimaginative boors!
- Their rapid climb is also thanks to a lot of the former top raiding guilds imploding recently. ↩
- I was actually going to apply to their raids some months ago when they were looking for a Holy priest, but then I learned that my raid was supposedly going to start doing The Black Temple on a regular basis. We didn’t, I missed out on the opportunity, and it still makes me cranky. ↩
- Which, in her words, does not make her a farm girl! ↩
