No One Can Do it Better
With the Wrath of the Lich King expansion looming overhead, you’d almost expect to see me working on getting ready for the transition or even researching more about what changes are forthcoming. However, I’m not. In fact, my activities in game could almost be characterized as being antediluvian.
While I’m still raiding once a week with the Drunken Badgers in Hjal Summit where we have managed a full clear in under two hours, my perky priestess’s raid fell apart in a spectacular fashion. And while many of us raiders who had been in the raid since its inception were left twisting in the wind, the group of individuals who comprised the leadership of the raid joined other pre-existing raids where they’re now fighting Illidan or exploring the Sunwell. I can’t say that I’m too pleased by this decision since it invariably favored them over their oh-so-dedicated raiders, but I’ve had my say about the matter to close friends and am considering not grouping up with the same people when the expansion comes out.
Overall, I’m trusting on my reputation on the server as a pretty decent healer and the guild to help keep me raiding on the perky priestess come Wrath of the Lich King.
The guild is still frantically trying to acquire Amani War Bears for the core group of raiders who have been in the raid since it’s creation in June, but things are not looking too good. I’m a bit disappointed as I’m one of those members1, but still have my hopes up. We raid every Saturday afternoon, have started a second alt-focused run, and I offered to assist in a Wednesday run with the perky priestess as needed. My drive to acquire a bear mount isn’t as high as I had expected, as I still continue to run mainly because I really enjoy the challenge inherent in trying to beat the timer. That and the fact that I always seem to have either the second or third highest roll.

Even when I roll a 97, I find that two others gleefully beat me! This cannot stand!
Overall, my time in game has been spent doing a few unconventional things. I still occasionally join Molten Core runs in the hope that I’ll acquire The Eye of Divinity and finally have a Benediction for one of my many priests. The pre-expansion epic staff has long since my white whale, despite having explored the Core for many many months.2 In order to help expedite this quest, I’ve finally gotten around to doing the Hydraxian Waterlords quest that would allow me to acquire the Eternal Quintessence, which would allow me to put out a flaming sigil in the Molten Core every hour, which is a necessary step if one wishes to fight Majordomo Executus — whose chest contains The Eye of Divinity.
Furthering my nostalgic pursuits within the game, many of us have taken to visiting Stratholme multiple times throughout the day in order to acquire the Deathcharger’s Reins from Baron Rivendare. It may seem silly to spend our time doing this when we could be otherwise preparing for the expansion, but we find it ridiculously fun and there are people in our little group who joined following The Burning Crusade’s release, meaning that they had little opportunity to explore many of the dungeons that existed before the expansion’s release. We’ve yet to see it drop, but by bringing an enchanter with us we’ve managed to make some decent money on our endeavors. Not to mention that Draccos of Flying J’s Weblog is striving to complete his Lightforge set, which is the paladin Dungeon 1/Tier 0.5 set that was originally available within World of Warcraft.
So we’re doing all of this, in addition to our attempts to acquire a Great Brewfest Kodo on a daily basis. It may not seem overwhelmingly exciting to the outsider, but my friends and I are still having a blast and we’re generally just enjoying ourselves before Wrath of the Lich King is released and our World of Warcraft-related lives become increasingly frantic.
And because I have been warned, threatened, and cajoled, I will now be posting pictures of good friend and occasional commenter Balaa, who made a draenei spectacle of herself3 during one of our many attempts to snag a mount in Blackrock Depths. Like many people, he was surprised to learn that Level 80 Elite Tauren Chieftain could be found in the Grim Guzzler and, better yet, could be summoned to be performed if someone used Direbrew’s Remote.

We even managed to get two Earth Elementals involved, who danced away the evening as Balaa played the role of L80ETC groupie.

- Despite having taken a few weeks off due to moving, but my dedication was apparent when I showed up for a raid the day that I was supposed to move! ↩
- I may cover my obsession with the weapon in a future post. ↩
- I always refer to characters by their gender, perhaps due to the fact that I am a roleplayer, despite the fact that their players may not be of the same gender! ↩
