No Time to Say Hello, Goodbye!

Every had one of those days when you just wanted to crawl under a cover and hope that it ends soon?  That’s been my day today.  Within the last twelve hours, I’ve:

  • Dealt with a sick ferret who’d rather claw out his own mouth than take his medication,
  • Wrangled with the downloader to get the final part of the current patch,
  • Experienced the fun of not going past the character loading screen despite being told that I was in the game, and
  • Found myself unable to access the administrative portion of my website.

The final part is what really threw me for a loop.  I’m not quite sure what happened or why — and I apologize for any inconveniences that you may have experienced during that time — but every time I attempted to log into the site I encountered a “Not Found” error.  You can follow my woes on the WordPress forums in the thread “Admin files — including wp-login.php — suddenly ‘Not Found’ in 2.6.2.”  Hopefully my experiences will help someone suffering from the same problem.

That said, I was feeling a bit morose this evening despite being able to finally log into World of Warcraft.  However, something happened shortly afterward that set me into gales of laughter.

Know of the achievement To All The Squirrels I’ve Loved Before?  It reads:

Show the critters of Azeroth how much you /love them.

  • Squirrel
  • Steam Frog
  • Borean Frog
  • Cat
  • Chicken
  • Cow
  • Crab
  • Deer
  • Ewe
  • Fawn Frog
  • Gazelle
  • Hare
  • Parrot
  • Rabbit
  • Ram
  • Sheep
  • Skunk
  • Swine
  • Toad
  • Prairie Dog

The significant other was trying to complete this quest. Finding that /hug and /kiss had failed to garner even a smidgen of completion, he had just started mindlessly slaughtering every critter that he came across, starting with a defenseless little rabbit.  Imagine my surprise — and laughter! — when I read the achievement description and information him that the correct was to complete the achievement was to /love each of them!

That somehow made everything much easier to handle!

Well, achievements look like they’re going to be a lot of fun. Sucks that a lot of them won’t be achievable without Wrath (I’m guessing Borean Frogs don’t hang around Westfall).

Could the file permissions hav been accidentally changed such that you could not read them, thus the 404 not found error? From the 553 Permission denied error you got when FTPing in new files, it appears to be a file permissions error.

I hope the ferret gets better. *dook* *dook*

I think your SO should get a dysfunctional relationship achievement with the critters - first he kills them then he loves them? Very disturbing. :)

You forgot to add Cynra into that bulleted list. =P

Aaaand of course, this is very amusing for those who don’t read the achievements requirements. My friend is always bugging me to tell him what something means or where to go.

I point at his computer screen and tell him to sound it out veeerrry slowly in the quest log. “Sccccaaaar….let….Moooonnnn….es…tary!”

Anywho, I’m doing good on my advance at the achievments as my ret paladin. 855 achievment points atm but eh…I can easily get more. Also I love having the title “Kelathos Jenkins!” =P Those whelps are easy cake ta kill.

You also have a sick ferret? That’s very interesting. I also have ferrets, had them for 10 years. Let me describe to you my day yesterday.

Get up. Ferret is nearly unconscience again. Luci has adrenal disease and insulinoma. She didn’t eat during the night, blood sugar crashed. I revive with Ensure and spend the next hour using a 1cc syringe to get her to start feeding. Turned out that she completely hated that formulation (A/D, Carnivore Care, and oatmeal for bulking), and took to straight Carnivore Care.

Rushed to work, an hour late as usual.

Got home, Luci was perky for the first 5 minutes, then started crashing hard. Unable to revive with ensure, A/D. Called my wife, she was stuck at work until 10. Drove down to the ER vet and put her to sleep, after nearly two years of struggle the time had come.

Meanwhile the patching issues of course continue, server up and server down.

Wife comes home, we fight because she wasn’t around to see Luci put down.

We go to sleep around midnight, I got onto one server to tame a gorilla and a Devilsaur - that was great.

As mom pointed out, things could be alot worse. My brother for example decided he was upsidedown on his brand new house, after being layed off from the housing industry. They are now going to go into foreclosure while dealing with him beign laid off, his wife having a horrible job, and 3 kids with Asperger’s syndrome.

See? It could always be worse. And sorry, as you can imagine, my mood isn’t the best.

Tal: Looks it, Tal. I actually had quite a bit of fun last night trying to complete a few while listening to my friends do the same on Vent.

Garilos: Y’know, I don’t think so. I looked at the permissions for the file (or attempted to do so) and all of the files that had that error had no permissions because they were suddenly 8-bit and then no longer existed. All I can think of is that it’s something on my host’s end and I’ll have to call them up and see what’s going on and how can we prevent it from happening again.

Either way, I detailed my efforts and how I fixed it on the thread. My hope is that the other people who were experiencing similar problems find that my solution works for them as well!

Joel: Just consider the state of our relationship then!

SmiterofQQers: Very few people actually ever read the text in game, whether it’s for an achievement or a quest. Usually all of your questions are answered right there!

A couple of us are going to attempt the Jenkins achievement this evening. I’ve been focusing on doing all of the quests with my Holy priestess, so she’d need a little bit of help getting that done.

Rob: Yes, the Bear lost about half of his weight within the last week and a half or so. I didn’t see or feel any tumors and he didn’t show the rest of the symptoms common of that, which the vet agreed with me. Right now we’re guessing some sort of stomach bacteria or something. I hate giving the little monster his second twice-daily medication he immediately starts trying to claw out his mouth and it makes me feel horrible to see that.

He’s on A/D as well to bulk up. Fortunately, he loves the stuff and is going through an enormous amount in a day. Gyõzõ — my second ferret — loathes it, so I haven’t had to separate them to make sure that the food goes to the right ferret. That makes me feel better because they’re rarely apart from one another.

And, your mother is right, it could be much worse. I realize this of course, but common sense doesn’t always dictate what we think and feel. Sorry to hear about the death of Luci; I wish you and your wife the best.

Cynra’s last blog post: No Time to Say Hello, Goodbye!

Cynra,

Hopefully its just a stomach bug, they can sweep through quickly. I know most ferrets hate Amoxi. I have a whole case of A/D I can send if you dont mind paying shipping. We’ll likely never use it. Email if interested.

If it’s some sort of bug blood work would be indicative (really just need a CBC/Diff, not necessarily the enzyme/ion test), and as mentioned it should clear quickly. Something that has a immediate onset like that makes me think of something drastic, either a bacterial or viral infection, intestinal blockage, stomach blockage, or the like. It’s probably not ca. Blockage can be decernable easily by their stool, if they are able to have solid stool then it’s not obstructed. If the stool is black, that indicates either blood or that the food has been sitting around a long time, something abnormal. If it’s green, the food is going through too quick. Either of these can be ameloriated by pregnisone, which will dampen intestinal inflammation and allow the intestine to absorb properly.

The fact that he/she still has appetite is a good sign. My sympathies and i hope they get better soon.
